Teaching Fellowships Available


Marlboro College Graduate School and the Saudi INTERLINK Language Center at Al Yamamah University are pleased to announce a limited number of teaching fellowships for 2013-2015. The fellowship is designed to prepare qualified and innovative teachers of English who base their instruction on learners and learning, communicative use of language, cultural understanding, group learning, and reflective practice.

Fellows enhance their teaching effectiveness by completing Marlboro College’s MA in Teaching the English Language (MAT-ESOL) and teaching an INTERLINK curriculum at the Saudi INTERLINK Language Center at Al Yamamah University.

Fellowships consist of two summers of full-time study in Vermont, USA, complemented by online instruction between summers, and two years of full-time teaching in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

BENEFITS

  • Fifty percent (50%) of graduate tuition, $10,600 (USD), will be contributed by INTERLINK
  • A monthly fellowship stipend of $2,500* for the first academic year of teaching (September 2013 – June 2014)
  • A base salary of $37,000 per annum, plus other credits, when degree is conferred
  • Additional salary credits for superior proficiency in a second language, Peace Corps service, previous ESOL teaching experience in the Middle East, and others
  • A bonus of 5% for each year of teaching service completed
  • Round-trip transportation to and from Saudi Arabia each year (valued at $2,000-$4,000)
  • Local transportation to and from campus each day (valued at $2,500)
  • Furnished housing (two to three-bedroom apartments to be shared by two instructors; valued at $16,000)
  • Medical insurance, with 10% co-pay (valued at $5,000)
  • Work visa procurement (valued at $5,000)
  • Local holidays, plus paid 45-day annual vacation
  • Annual renewable contract
  • Contracts may be renewed contingent upon instructor’s performance and continuation of the program

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  1. Bachelor’s degree
  2. Minimum of one year ESL/EFL teaching experience with adult learners
  3. Teaching experience with absolute beginning language learners
  4. Fellow must have native or near-native fluency in English and superior communication skills
  5. Strong computer skills
  6. CELTA or SIT TESOL Certificate or equivalent (120-hours)


Preferred

  1. Commitment to students, the profession, and a learner-centered teaching method
  2. Ability to adapt to a way of life requiring understanding, conformity, and flexibility
  3. Experience with course management systems and/or use of technology in the classroom

ACADEMIC CALENDAR

May 6 – June 28, 2013 Online coursework (4-5 hours per week)

June 29 – August 24, 2013 Face-to-face coursework at Marlboro College Graduate Center, Vermont, USA

August 2013 – June 2014 INTERLINK teaching at Al Yamamah University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
July – end of August 2013 Second summer of coursework at Marlboro College

September 2014 – July 2015 Second year of INTERLINK teaching at Al Yamamah University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

To apply, register at http://fellows.tvtcinterlink.net and upload three references, resume, and other items as detailed online. The quantity of fellowships is limited.

Applicants must complete their application no later than February 22th, 2013. By March 1st, 2013, the selection committee will announce its decisions. Applicants apply to Marlboro and INTERLINK independently. To receive the fellowship, applicants must apply to and be accepted by both INTERLINK and Marlboro.
