EFL Instructional Positions for Men

Starting November 2011 and January 2012

Background

For more than three decades, INTERLINK has been offering intensive English language training, academic preparation and cultural orientation to students, scholars and professionals from around the world.

Now, INTERLINK has been awarded a contract by the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) of Saudi Arabia, which oversees Colleges of Technology in the Kingdom, to prepare its graduates linguistically to function in the workplace (primarily offices) where they will be writing reports, keeping records, communicating with others by phone, email, text, and explaining their roles, activities, and rationale for decisions and actions to others. Training will take place at eight different Colleges of Technology in the Kingdom, during two 21-week semesters per year.

In addition to teaching, instructors will participate in initial student placement testing, regular faculty meetings, and on-going curriculum review. Because classes use a Course Management System (Claroline), instructors must be must be comfortable with, and adept at, using computers and online materials.

Those accepted for the posts will receive orientation/training in use of INTERLINK materials and pedagogical approach.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates for these positions must:

o Be native speakers of English

o Have an undergraduate degree (BA/BA) or its

o Hold an SIT TESOL Certificate or equivalent (an on-site course completion with at least 120 hour of instruction; online certificates will not be considered)

o Have experience with zero beginners useful

o Have strong computer skills and preferably CMS experience

o Have a minimum of one year of ESL/EFL teaching experience with adult learners

Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate:

  1. MA in TESL/TEFL
  2. Creativity and flexibility to adapt to a student-centered program using an experiential and needs-based approach
  3. Ability to adapt to a way of life requiring understanding, conformity, and flexibility
  4. Commitment to students, the profession, and a learner-centered teaching method
  5. Fluency in other languages and/or Peace Corps or similar service/work experience in another country.

Responsibilities

  1. 20 hours of weekly instruction, plus 10 hours weekly of supervision of on-line student lab work
  2. Learning and using an online Course Management System (Claroline)
  3. Class preparation, record keeping, grading, and written reports on student progress
  4. Initial placement testing of students
  5. Keeping office hours for meetings with students
  6. Participation in faculty meetings, committees, on- and off-campus activities and

Salary, Benefits and Terms

o $36,500 - $42,500 salary per annum, commensurate with experience
  1. Salary and benefits will be paid for 12 months contract from September 01st, 2011, and it will end on August 31st, 2012. (Starting date for all classes will be on September 24th, 2011, ending August 1, 2012). Instructors will get 45 days paid vacation at the end of the contract period plus 5 days for Eid Al Adha (religious holiday) and 5 days break between semesters.
  2. Round-trip transportation to and from Saudi Arabia
  3. Furnished housing (two- to three-bedroom apartments to be shared by two instructors) or a SAR30, 000 housing allowance for singles wishing not to share an apartment. Married couples may also opt for the housing allowance, which SAR40,000 per year. Married couples may also receive air tickets for up to three (spouse and two children) but the cost of visa, etc. will be the employee’s responsibility.
  4. Medical insurance, with 10% co-pay
  5. Local transportation to and from the campus (or SAR 500 per month for those who cannot use the College’s bus or van)
  6. 5% end-of-service bonus for contract completion
  7. Contracts may be renewed contingent upon instructors’ performance and continuation of the program, or employees may be transferred to INTERLINK’s other programs in the kingdom.
